How completion is counted
Two of the five content types complete themselves when opened. The other three wait for the learner to say they are done. Nothing else affects it, and nobody can mark completion on someone else's behalf.

The split is not arbitrary. The first two are content the portal serves and can therefore instrument. The other three are links out to somewhere else, and once someone has left the portal there is no honest way to know what they did — so instead of guessing, the portal asks.
What a learner sees
Someone assigned a path works down it in order. Each step carries one action, and the wording tells you which rule applies: Mark viewed on the two automatic types — a confirmation of what already happened — and Mark complete on the three external ones, which is the actual record being made.
A completion counts once. Reopening something already completed does not add to anything.
What a manager sees
Workspace owners and Editors see the content board, the paths, and how far each person has got. Members see only the paths assigned to them and their own progress — the board is not hidden from them by a setting, it is never built for them at all.

It is switched on per workspace. Its absence is a setting rather than a fault; ask us to turn it on.
